ExxonMobil (XOM) insider buying and selling

Get an email when an insider buys Open-market purchases are rare: the insider is spending their own money. One email the day the Form 4 lands, with the filing linked. It needs a free account, and the alert arrives off: you turn it on yourself.

Every Table I transaction reported by directors and officers of S&P 500 companies on SEC Form 4 filings: open-market purchases and sales, grants, option exercises, tax withholding, gifts — everything the filings report, each row labeled with its official transaction code. Nothing is filtered out beforehand. Insiders are legally required to file within 2 business days.

Open-market purchases (code P) are the rare, valuable signal and are highlighted in green. Sales (code S) are common and often pre-scheduled (10b5-1 plans, labeled as such). Table II (derivatives: options, RSUs) is not included: its prices are exercise prices, not market values, and exercises already show up here as code M when they deliver shares.

The period balance: money in, money out

In the Form 4 filings submitted between Aug 25, 2025 and Mar 17, 2026 there is not one open-market purchase of ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation: 7 sales worth $2.6M and zero dollars bought.

Only open-market trades count here (codes P and S), which is where an insider puts in or takes out their own money. A selling balance is the norm in the S&P 500: much of the pay comes as stock and gets sold to diversify or to cover the tax on a vesting. Neither the balance nor a single purchase is a recommendation to buy or sell; they are what was filed.

Every transaction, code by code

CodeWhat it meansTradesReported amount
AGrant or award24$0
FTax withholding (shares surrendered for taxes)10$12.7M
SOpen-market sale7$2.6M
GGift4$0
TotalEverything filed in the period45$15.3M

The amount is the sum of what each filing reports, not an estimate: a row can have trades and no amount because the Form 4 carried no price. The code labels come from the SEC index itself.

Who has traded

Over the 14 months of history, 23 distinct people or entities have filed ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation transactions: none bought on the open market and 1 sold. They are counted by CIK —the number the SEC assigns to each filer, which never changes— and not by name: the name is free text each filer types, and the same insider shows up spelled several ways, so counting names would overcount.

Shown here are the 8 who moved the most money, out of 23. The rest are in the full history, one link above. The name links to every trade that person filed across the whole history, in every company, searched by CIK. "Transactions" counts all of theirs in this company, under any code; the two money columns are open market only. The role is the one on their most recent filing.

Month by month

Open-market purchases and sales by the month the trade was EXECUTED, not the month it was filed: the date that matters is the date of the decision. Months with no trades are shown as zero, because a blank month is data and not a gap.

The last month is usually partial: insiders have two business days to file a Form 4, so the most recent days are still coming in. This table does not say whether the pattern is good or bad; it says when things happened.

How to read this data

Scheduled sales (10b5-1 plans) are signed months ahead and executed automatically: they say nothing about what the executive thinks today. Open-market purchases (code P) are the rare signal, because insiders are already paid in stock. Insiders have two business days to file Form 4, so the latest day is usually partial. Every row links to the original SEC filing.

The footnotes folded into the code column come from the Form 4 itself, copied verbatim: they are what tells you a price is the weighted average of several executions, that the shares are held by a trust, or which specific transaction a code J is (on its own it only says "other transaction"). When the filing hangs no footnote on a row, the row carries none: no explanation is invented.
